3.4.14 Below Zero Days Mount

The number of below zero days are mounting this winter.
The winter chill rolls on.

Tuesday morning was the latest day featuring below zero temperatures over a widespread area. The mercury dipped to -27 in Sutton and Canaan in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, and -24 in Lake Placid, NY. Even Burlington touched -7.

Through March 4, Burlington has logged 17 days with below zero temperatures. Last year just 8 days slipped below zero.

The trend is similar in Lebanon, NH. This year features 21 below zero days with just 8 last year.

In Saranac Lake, always a cold spot, 45 days have fallen below zero this year compared to 26 last.

It won't be as cold Tuesday night thanks to an increase in clouds and a few snow showers, but as skies clear Wednesday night brace for another bone chilling overnight. Lows will be in the teens and 20s below zero for most.
