After Cold Weather Blast, Road Crews Prepare for Next Storm

COLCHESTER, Vt. - The combination of bitterly cold air and a burst of snow made for some pretty icy roads this weekend.

Road crews were out all day spreading brine on icy roads.

The Vermont Agency of Transportation says the snow came down faster than they could clear and salt the roads.

Now the agency says it's time to prepare for this week's potential Nor'easter. They plan to send trucks out in advance.

"It's called pre-treating the road. What happens is when it comes in the snow doesn't stick to the roads so it doesn't pack down as much, when we pre-treat them usually," says Mark Meunier, VTrans supervisor.

VTrans also warns with low temps Sunday, water on the road might freeze, so assume there is black ice on the roads.
