SHELBURNE, Vt. -  We may be a few days past the dog days of summer, But don't tell that to the Shelburne Museum! The annual Shelburne Museum Goes to the Dogs event took place at the museum Sunday.

More than 1,000 dogs got to enjoy the sunshine. A number of humane societies and rescue groups were also there.

They say events like these are great way to let people know there are still plenty of dogs looking for homes.

"A There's a lot of shelters in Vermont and there's a really high need for homes. So this is a really great event to do that because everyone's together we're all pulling for the same team...very helpful for us," Shayla MacDowell, of the Humane Society of Chittenden County, said.

There was a "dock dogs" competition going on where they had big air, speed retrieve, and vertical leap events that were open to anyone who wanted to compete.
