UTICA, N.Y. - The body of an infant was found by a State Police dive team in the Mohawk River on Friday.

Police did not confirm that the remains were those of Levon Wameling, a child who was reported missing in June.

They said the remains were found in a container.

The child’s father – Jevon Wameling – who was reportedly the last person to see him, was arrested by State Police on Friday on unrelated burglary charges.

Utica Police confirmed that they were tipped off to the location by State Police.

Nevertheless, police referred consistently to the case of the missing child during the press conference.

Police searched numerous locations in the Utica area as part of the investigation leading up to Friday’s discovery.

On Friday, dive teams concentrated on the area of Leland Avenue, where police had previously searched.
