Burlington Answers Questions About Ballot Measures

BURLINGTON, Vt. - People in Burlington had the chance to learn about important issues on the Town Meeting Day ballot.

On Monday, city leaders were on hand to explain several issues but few people showed up.

We wanted to learn more about a proposed increase in the general city tax rate. It's proposed to go up about two-cents.

"We're asking voters to approve this tax increase so we can continue to provide the services that we provide. In fact, expand some of those services and look to the future to be able to address long-term issues within the city," says Bob Rusten, Chief Administrative Officer for the City of Burlington.

Staff say part of the money will help fund ten new city jobs. But we're told those jobs will actually help the city save money and eventually will pay for themselves.

If they don't, the jobs could be cut.
