Burlington Superintendent to Leave District

Amid calls for change in school leadership, Burlington School Superintendent Jeanne Collins will leave the district June 30th.
BURLINGTON, Vt. - Amid calls for change in school leadership, Burlington School Superintendent Jeanne Collins will leave the district June 30th.

At a school board meeting Tuesday, members unanimously approved a separation agreement between the district and Collins. It would mean her leaving two years before the end of her contract

Following the announcement, Collins and some of her co-workers exchanged hugs and tearful goodbyes.

Details of what's being called a mutual separation agreement were not released. The board chairman says more information would be released Tuesday night or Wednesday.

The board says work will begin immediately to find a replacement for Collins.

"If everything were to go as planned then there it would be as early as June 1st we'll identity an interim superintendent to move forward. Whether that is realistic or not, it's an ambitious timeline I hope we'll be able to do, " said Patrick Hallladay, Burlington School Board Chair.

There have been calls for changes in district leadership since the failure of the school budget on Town Meeting Day and revelations about financial problems with the district.
