BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Sophomore Ethan O'Day scored a season-high 21 points, one shy of his career-high, to lead the Vermont Catamounts to a 72-39 victory over visiting Binghamton in America East Men's Basketball action at Patrick Gymnasium on Sunday evening.

Vermont has won eight of its last nine games and improves to 6-1 in America East and 12-9 overall. Binghamton falls to 1-6 in league play and 4-16 on the season.

O'Day, who made his second start of the year, poured in 16 of his 21 points in the first half to outscore the entire Binghamton squad as the Catamounts led 38-13 at the break.

Vermont shot 50 percent from the field and held the Bearcats to 23.8 shooting in the first 20 minutes.

Binghamton scored the first basket of the game, but that was the only lead it would have the rest of the way.  A 3-pointer by Kurt Steidl with 3:49 remaining gave UVM a 31-9 lead.

The Catamounts would extend their advantage to 33 points in the opening minutes of the second half and cruised to their fifth win at Patrick Gymnasium this season.

Candon Rusin added 16 points, making four of five shots from 3-point range, and Luke Apfeld came off the bench to chip in 10 points.

Yosef Yacob netted 10 points to pace the Bearcats.
