Vermont lawmakers will hear from a judge Wednesday as they look at child abuse issues in the state.

The Senate Review Panel on Child Protection was formed following the death of Dezirae Sheldon, 2, of Poultney. She died in February after suffering severe head trauma. Her stepfather, Dennis, 31, has been charged with her death.

Prosecutors say Dezirae had a history of child abuse injuries. Her mother, Sandra Eastman, was convicted of cruelty to a child last year.

The panel is looking over current legislation in the state.

Lawmakers will hear from Chief Administrative Judge Amy Davenport on Wednesday.
