Law enforcement will hit the roads this week with a special emphasis on making sure you buckle up. The nationwide "click it or ticket" campaign kicks off Monay night for the summer.
State police in New York and Vermont got together to drive home the issue.
Nationwide, more than half of drivers and passengers killed in crashes are not wearing seat belts. For that reason, leaders will not only be targeting drivers.
"You can get pulled over for anyone in the vehicle, regardless of age. The seat belt laws apply to everybody. Safety applies to everybody," Essex County Sheriff Richard Cutting said.
Law enforcement says for some reason, the main culprits not wearing seatbelts are pick up truck drivers driving at night.
