Congress Split on Highway and Bridge Repair Funding

Congress appears to be at a fork in the road when it comes to funding for highway and bridge repairs.
WASHINGTON - Congress appears to be at a fork in the road when it comes to funding for highway and bridge repairs.

On Tuesday, the Senate approved amendments to replenish the U.S. highway trust fund differently than a House measure passed earlier this month.

The Senate plan would extend funding through December. The House bill would take funding through May.

The U.S. Highway Trust Fund is expected to run out of money by Friday.

And Congress leaves for a five week recess at the end of this week.

If they can't agree on a plan, state officials across the country have said they would have to freeze or cancel hundreds of highway and bridge projects.
