Deceased Hiker in Fayston Identified

Vermont State Police have released the name of the deceased hiker in Fayston.
FAYSTON, Vt. - Vermont State Police have released the name of the deceased hiker in Fayston. 

Police say they are awaiting the autopsy results for Nicholas Dewey, 22, of Morrisville, Vt. Right now, police say, there is no indication of foul play at this time.

Dewey's family members called Vermont State Police on Tuesday stating that Dewey was lost. Dewey told family members on Monday that he was drenched from the rain, cold, and missing a shoe.

Police say he Family members tried to locate him on the trail, but couldn't locate him. 

Police say they tried to contact Dewey, but were unable to reach him. Dewey was located by helicopter, deceased, off the Long Trail at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. 

Dewey left on Monday for a 3-5 day trip on Hedgehog trail.

Officials are advising anyone venturing out into the backcountry to be prepared for difficult conditions with deep snow.
