Dick's Sporting Goods Employee Accused of Helping Friends Steal Merchandise From Store

A Dick's Sporting Goods Employee is accused of helping his friends steal merchandise from the store Tuesday.
RUTLAND (TOWN), Vt. - A Dick's Sporting Goods Employee is accused of helping his friends steal merchandise from the store Tuesday.

Police say an employee called Tuesday believing that another employee was helping a customer steal merchandise from the store.

The customer was identified as 19-year-old George Busharis, of Castleton, Vt., and was carrying 2 bags of miscellaneous merchandise when police arrived. Police say Busharis had a receipt for a single item for $3.20, but had numerous merchandise valuing at $314.

Busharis admitted to stealing several items from the store with the help of his friend 21-year-old Brandon Boyle, of Castleton, Vt.  At the time of the incident, Boyle was an employee of Dick's Sporting Goods. Busharis and Boyle go to Castleton State College together.

Police say during questioning, Boyle admitted to assisting Busharis and several other Castleton State College Students with stealing merchandise from the store. Boyle assisted Busharis in the theft of merchandise on two or three separate occasions over the last two to three weeks.

The other subjects have not been identified.

Busharis and Boyle were issued criminal citations and released.  Both are due in court in October.

Police say the loss prevention personnel at Dick’s Corporate Office was looking into Boyles suspected involvement in the theft of merchandise. They say they have video footage and receipts showing that Boyle assisted several of his friends with the theft of merchandise.

Dick’s loss prevention estimates that Boyle and numerous friends are responsible for the theft merchandise valued at more than $3,000.
