Essex Community Historical Society Holds Family Day

Families interested in learning more about the history of Essex got their chance on Sunday.
ESSEX, Vt. -

Families interested in learning more about the history of Essex got their chance on Sunday.

The Essex Community Historical Society held a family day outside the Harriet Powell Museum in Essex.

Kids got animal balloons and their faces painted, all in the name of learning about the past.

“The mission of the museum is to protect and save for the public the artifacts and history of Essex,” explained Paula DeMichele, VP of Essex Community Historical Society Board. “The lady who started the museum was named Harriet Farnsworth Powell. She saved the building. It was going to be destroyed and she saved it and it was turned into a museum instead."

Jericho musician Derek Burkins serenaded the crowd.

If you ever want to check it out, the museum is next door to the Essex Free Library!
