Fit on Fox: Bike MS

Fit on Fox: Bike MS

This week's workout lets YOU try a Fit on Fox feature with Steve!
We encourage you to join Steve Glazier and others in this edition of Fit on Fox!

It's the Bike MS event happening Saturday and Sunday, August 2-3, 2014 at UVM. The event kicks off bright and early at 7 a.m. and the rides both start and end at the University of Vermont campus. You don't have to be an avid cyclist, you don't have to be able to ride hundreds of miles, but just a nice and easy going ride on the bike will do you just fine! The MS Society, Greater New England Chapter, hosts rides all across northern New England and this is the Vermont edition, called the Green Mountain Getaway.

Steve Glazier interviewed Scott Hinman, captain of Team Vital Links for this particular event. Scott has MS and is still able to ride in this event each year. Here's what he had to say about it when Steve interviewed him:

"I've been an athlete my whole life and after I was diagnosed with MS I had to start slowing down. I had to start accepting that I had to pace myself.  Biking for me, the purpose of it for me, is to stay in shape and it's a way to allow my body to exercise and still be able to move the next day. I ride for a purpose. It's away to help someone you probably know.I almost guarantee that anyone who sees this, knows someone or has someone in their life who has been affected by MS. It's kind of an invisible disease sometimes and it can have a detrimental affect on the quality of people's lives and that's what we're trying to fix. What's great about this event is that its fully supported and by that I mean that there are support vehicles that are driving around and if you get a flat they've got tubes, they've got air pumps. Most of the rest stops actually have a mechanic there so if there's something wrong with your bike they'll help you. It's my way of giving back to an organization that does so much for so many."

Steve Glazier is a team captain for FOX RIDES! That's the FOX44/ABC22 team. We need riders, so please follow this link to join our team or donate. Here's a link to the main event page too for more information regarding the event.
