Fletcher Allen Wins "Green" Award

Fletcher Allen won a green award for the fifth year in a row.
BURLINGTON, Vt. - For the fifth year in a row, Fletcher Allen is being honored for its green practices. The hospital received a "Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award."

The distinction comes after Fletcher Allen increased its recycling rate to 50 percent last year, well above the average 35 percent achieved by other hospitals. Its focus on sustainable food sources and energy reduction was also recognized.

"We're buying substantially- you know, more than half of our food supplied here is from local sources, and we're very proud of that. Our ongoing energy work is something that we're proud of. We're very challenged, this is a big organization with a big footprint, old buildings," Dawn LeBaron said. She’s the Vice President of Hospital Services.

Fletcher Allen's green efforts continue, of course. This year the hospital hopes to also decrease the amount of materials used overall.
