South Burlington, VT --- South Burlington freshman Rachel Labombard is making the jump from the Sharks to the Rebels. It's a big step from the CSB program to high school but a dream realized makes Labombard our Fox 44/ABC 22 HS Athlete of the Week.

"She made the U-14 Sharks team this fall and was hoping to make the high school team at South Burlington." explained Chittenden-South Burlington U-14 Sharks hockey coach Robyn Hall. "She was fortunate enough to find out this week that she made the team."

"It feels amazing." said Labombard. "It was scary because they were cutting people this year, and only a few girls got cut. It made me feel good that I actually got a chance."

This is her last week with the U-14 Sharks and, for her, it's bittersweet. She has always aimed high and now that she's achieved her goal, she has to move on.

"She will be leaving us after this week." said Coach Hall. "She is a tenacious girl and hockey player and that was her goal when she started to play hockey. She wanted to make the high school team."

"I'm really sad because I didn't know most of these people for a long time." Rachel said. "When I found out I made the team I started crying because I was so happy but I realized I'm going to miss one of my favorite teams in a long time."

both Labombard and her coach expect her to make big improvements at the next level.

"Four years is a long time." Hall said. "And since she's only been playing for five years, you can imagine the difference and physically she's going to get stronger. We think that by the time she's a senior she'll be a great contributor to that program."

"I hope that I become a better hockey player than I was in the beginning." said the new Rebel. "And I hope that I just meet new people and astonish people. That I can do better."
