BURLINGTON, Vt.- Friday is National HIV Testing Day.

Health Leaders in New York and Vermont are urging people to know their status.

Vermont CARES is offering free and anonymous testing at all offices.

It's quick and painless, it takes just 20 minutes to test.

The organization will also provide prevention and counseling information.

People there said most people contract HIV through un-protected sex and by injecting drugs.

"60 percent of the people living with HIV from ages 13 to 24 actually don't know they have it, and these are people that are sexually active, so the danger is out there and clear," said Christian Pinillos, Vermont CARES.

That free testing takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. at all 4 Vermont CARES locations.
