Gas Leak Forces Evacuation at College in Plattsburgh

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - A scary morning for around 50 people in Plattsburgh after a gas leak.

Some kids at a day care were forced to evacuate the SUNY campus.

Campus police say it happened around 8 a.m. outside the Kent residence hall off Rugar Street.

Construction crews struck a gas line. Six buildings were evacuated. Nobody was hurt.

Police say they plan ahead for these kind of emergencies.

"We do practice emergency management procedures regularly. So things flowed pretty slowly and we were lucky," Assistant SUNY Plattsburgh Police Chief Jerry Lottie said.

The leak was repaired within two hours.
