WATERBURY, Vt. - Governor Peter Shumlin on Wednesday addressed reports that another round of layoffs will hit IBM this week.
Shumlin says he's in close contact with the company and has been given no indications that job cuts are coming.
This comes just days after the governor proposed a new $5 million jobs fund designed to attract and retain tech sector positions.
"Those 4,000 jobs plus at IBM are incredibly important to our economy," Shumlin said. "I'm going to do whatever I have to do, whatever I can do, to keep IBM going and thriving in Vermont. That's my goal. If I have to use some of that funding to do it, we will."
If approved, the money for that jobs fund from come from surplus state revenue.
