PLATTSBURGH, NY - Did you know about 8 out of every 10 car seats are improperly installed?
That's what Clinton County's Sheriff Department says.
To help that number drop, a child safety seat check was held Saturday in Plattsburgh.
People could have their child's car seat inspected for free by specialists.
Traffic safety experts said a big problem is when people buy used car seats that no longer work.
"Everyone of these events is to make parents more aware of how to install their seats correctly and like I said we always want to make sure the child leaves safer than they got here," said Mitch Carriere, a Clinton County Traffic Safety Specialist.
A bonus was if a car seat was deemed unsafe, people at the inspection were given a new one at no cost to them.
Officials make an effort to hold at least one of these events each year.
