BURLINGTON, Vt. - Some kids are spending their summer vacation learning about animals.

The Chittenden County Humane Society hosts Camp Paw Paw.

Organizers said the camp focuses on teaching kids how to interact with animals, how to take care of them as pets, and the correct way to approach an animal.

This weeks' guest speakers were Burlington police officers and their K9 partners.

They taught kids about the different jobs some animals have.

"This shows kids the important role that they play and whether it be finding drugs, defending people, finding missing children. the different roles police dogs play and how they are actually police officers," said Ben Beaudoin, Camp Paw Paw head counselor

"We've learned a lot about different types of animals and how to take care of them and stuff like that," said Anna Hall, Camp Paw Paw Camper.

Kids watched the K9's demonstrate some of their skills, such as finding evidence and people.

Camp Paw Paw is offered as a week long camp that runs through the middle of August.
