GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - A lawsuit against the New York Safe Act has been filed.
The lawsuit was filed by La Reddola, Lester & Associates, LLP. on behalf of Gabriel Razzano and others in similar situations on March 24, 2014.
According to Court documents, Razzano says the New York Safe Act violates his and others' 2nd, 4th, 5th, and 14 amendment rights.
Last year, a federal judge upheld most of the gun law. The only provision struck down was the seven-round limit because it violated the 2nd amendment.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo signed the New York Safe Act in January 2013. New York was the first state to tighten its gun laws after the Newtown school shooting in December 2012.
Gun owners have until April 15, 2014 to register their assault weapons with New York State Police.
