Man injured in Motorcycle Crash

A 55-year-old man is in the hospital after crashing his motorcycle on Hinesburg Road in South Burlington.
SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt.- UPDATE: A 55-year-old man is in the hospital after crashing his motorcycle on Hinesburg Road in South Burlington.

Police shutdown the 800 block of Hinesburg Road for a couples hours.

It's now back open.

When police arrived to the scene around 6:30PM Sunday, the driver was lying on the roadway, 30 feet from the motorcycle.

Police said the man may have been speeding when he lost control.

He was taken to Fletcher Allen Hospital for unknown injuries.

He was wearing a helmet, but no other protective gear, only shorts, and a T-shirt.

"You need to have the proper gear on because any of this could happen, whether it's induced by you or by someone else. you need to wear the proper protective gear, and I think a lot of these injuries could have been avoided had he had it.," said Detective Ron Bliss, South Burlington PD

Police aren't ruling out if alcohol was a factor.

The identity of the driver is not being released at this time, until family have been notified.



UPDATE: Police re-opened a portion of Hinesburg Road in South Burlington around 8:30pm.

The 800 block was closed for a couple hours due to a single motorcycle crash.

When police arrived the man operating was lying on the ground, 30 feet from the motorcycle.

The driver of the motorcycle was transported to Fletcher Allen Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.

Police said the man operating the motorcycle was speeding, and lost control.

Police aren't ruling out if alcohol was a factor. 

The identity of the driver is not being released at this time, until family have been notified.

His condition is unknown.

UPDATE: 

South Burlington Police and the South Burlington Fire Department are asking drivers to avoid Hinesburg Road near Lane Press.  

They are on scene dealing with a motorcycle accident. FOX44/ABC22 will update the public with details as soon as they become available.
