Man Involved in Burlington Stabbing Former Guard Member

BURLINGTON, Vt. - The Vermont Army National Guard confirmed Monday morning that Christopher Mesick was a former member.

Captain Chris Gookin, Spokesperson for the Vermont Army National Guard, says Mesick was honorably discharged on December 31, 2009. He was a traditional guard member who worked weekends. Gookin says Mesick was deployed in 2005 and 2006 to Ramadi, Iraq as part of Task Force Saber.

Police say Mesick, 31, ran away after stabbing another man in the stomach early Sunday morning.

Police believe another man, 29-year-old Shea Black started a fight with Mesick in downtown Burlington. Both Black and Mesick were drinking.

Mesick was arrested for aggravated assault and resisting arrest. He is being held on $25,000 bail.

Shea was also charged with Aggravated Assault and his bail was set at $5,000.

Mesick is scheduled to appear in court Monday morning.

FOX 44 and ABC 22 will provide updates when they become available.
