BURLINGTON, Vt. - A man was sentenced to 13 months on Wednesday for illegally entering the U.S. earlier this year after being deported.

A press release says in March, Columbian citizen John Acosta-Bermudez drove through the Port-of-Entry in Derby Line without stopping. Acosta-Bermudez then headed south on I-91 before being stopped by a border patrol agent. A press release says Acosta-Bermudez was driving with a passenger who was an illegal immigrant.

Acosta-Bermudez was deported twice following a New York robbery conviction and a federal passport fraud conviction. He cannot return to the U.S. without advanced permission from the U.S. Attorney General.

Acosta-Bermudez was being detained without bail since his arrest in March.
