VESTAL, N.Y. -
Freshman Nikki McFarland tapped in a rebound of teammate Caitie Green's shot in the 108th minute to lift the Vermont Catamounts to a 2-1 victory over Binghamton in double overtime.

With the victory, the Catamounts earn the No. 5 seed in the upcoming America East Tournament and are making their third straight playoff appearance for the first time in program history.  UVM will travel to No. 4 Hartford on Thursday (Oct. 31) for a 6 p.m. match.

Vermont improves to 6-8-3 overall, posting the most wins since the 2005 squad recorded eight victories, and finishes the America East slate with a 3-3-2 mark.  Binghamton moves to 8-7-2 on the year and 3-4-1 in the league.  The Bearcats earned the No. 6 seed in the America East Tournament.

Vermont struck first as Bre Pletnick's half volley from 20 yards out found the upper corner and gave the Catamounts a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute.  Freshman Paige Phillips picked up an assist on the play.

The Bearcats evened the score in the 38th minute.  Genevieve Crescenzo dribbled to the endline and sent a pass over to Michele Galvin who knocked in her third goal of the season from eight yards out.

The teams entered halftime with the score knotted at 1-1 and neither team could find the go-ahead goal in regulation.

McFarland's fifth goal of the season was her second game-winner on the year.  She leads the team in scoring with 12 points and is tied for the team lead in goals (5) with Pletnick.

Morgan Nichols made six saves in the Vermont net to pick up the win and three Bearcats combined for one stop in the Binghamton goal.
