BARTON, Vt. - Vermont State Police have released the names of the troopers involved in the officer-involved shooting early Wednesday.
Sergeant Denis Girouard and Trooper Seth Loomis were not hurt after an early morning car chase that turned violent in barton.
Police say Eric Jackson, 27, of Lyndonville, Vt., led police on a 15-minute chase in a stolen car before smashing into two police cruisers. That's when the two officers began shooting at Jackson.
When Vermont State Police Colonel Tom L'Esperance talked to reporters on Wednesday he described how this affects his officers.
"This is something, I say this after every shooting, that they'll live with for the rest of their career," Colonel L'Esperance said. "And it makes for angst for our family members because leaving the door last night meant one last meant one thing, when they go to work the next day on, it will mean something different forever."
Eric Jackson is in custody at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center while he recovers. He will be tried in Caledonia County Court.
Jackson could face attempted aggravated assault charges.
