Vermont's health department is getting ready for a day of observance.

Thursday, June 27th, is National HIV Testing Day.  Officials want Vermonters to take advantage of free services across the state.

The health department estimates nearly 100 people in Vermont have HIV and don't know it. Thanks to modern medicine and awareness, HIV and AIDS aren't the same diseases they once were.

"They're now considered more of a chronic disease. You can really live a long healthy life even though you're infected with HIV," Epidemiologist Patsy Kelso said.

The Health Department does have a website devoted to this.

If you'd like to take advantage of the free testing clinics, click here.
