Newport Mayor Paul Monette Pleads Guilty to DUI

Newport Mayor Paul Monette, 51, has pleaded guilty to DUI for a crash he was involved in in July.
NEWPORT, Vt. - Newport Mayor Paul Monette, 51, has pleaded guilty to DUI for a crash he was involved in in July.

FOX 44 and ABC 22 reporter Jenny Day says Monette was sentenced to 200 hours of community service and a treatment program. He will not face jail time unless he violates his probation.

This is his second offense, his first was in 1999.

On July 21 at around 2 a.m., Monette was traveling north on I-91 when he lost control of his 2012 Toyota Prius. He crossed the median and flipped numerous times.

Monette has no plans to resign as mayor.
