A warning Monday about knock off cell phone batteries.

New York Senator Charles Schumer is calling on the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to investigate incidents and consider further actions.

Schumer says over the past two years, there have been 60 reports of batteries smoking, catching fire, and even exploding. And those are just the ones that went reported.

"Recently, there have been reports of a dangerous occurrence that is seemingly becoming more and more common," Schumer said. "These batteries, cell phone batteries, are supposed to when you have them in your hand, you expect that they'll charge your cell phone, not explode."

Schumer has requested that the CPSC investigate this matter further to determine the true scope of the problem.
