Officer Identified in Brattleboro Officer-Involved Shooting

Vermont State Police have identified the officer involved in the officer-involved shooting in Brattleboro last Friday.
BRATTLEBORO, Vt. - Vermont State Police have identified the officer involved in the officer-involved shooting in Brattleboro last Friday. The shooting happened at the American Best Inn.

Police say the officer involved in the shooting as Brattleboro Police Department Sergeant Mark Carignan. 

On April 4, Michael Santiago, 35, was shot when Brattleboro Police searched his hotel room during an ongoing drug investigation. He died at the scene from gunshot wounds.

In addition to the Vermont State Police investigation, the Brattleboro Police Department is conducting an internal investigation regarding this incident. 

The investigation will be independently reviewed by the Bennington County State's Attorney and the Vermont Attorney General's Office, which is standard procedure in an officer-involved shooting.
