Old Man of the Mountain Remembered

Eleven years ago, New Hampshire's iconic Old Man of the Mountain collapsed.
FRANCONIA, N.H. - Saturday marks 11 years since New Hampshire's iconic Old Man of the Mountain collapsed.

The natural formation, resembling the profile of a man, formed from a series of geological events millions of years ago. It became a symbol of the Granite State, adorning everything from highway signs to license plates to the state quarter.

After the collapse, some wanted to recreate the "Old Man" that was located in Franconia Notch State Park. That idea was turned down. Instead, a Profile Plaza now serves as a memorial for the iconic symbol.
