Plattsburgh’s Annual Go Red BetterU Makeover Challenge

Plattsburgh's annual Go Red BetterU Makeover challenge.
Who?
We want YOU! The American Heart Association, along with NBT Bank and Eclipse Fitness and Spa are seeking applicants for this life-changing challenge. We want applications from women that have a desire to change their lifestyle in order to live a more heart-healthy life. We will select 12 women to participate in the BetterU Makeover Challenge and honor our BetterU women at the Plattsburgh’s BetterU event in June 2014.

What?
The 12 women selected will participate in a 12-week HEART HEALTH makeover. They will meet with Michelle Mosher, health professional and personal health coach from Eclipse Fitness and Spa to learn to take care of their hearts and bodies over the course of this 12-week program. In addition, they will participate in a community educational health lecture series that will be also open to the public. Topics covered will include stress relief, nutrition, fitness, and many more.

Where?
NBT Bank and Eclipse Fitness and Spa, along with staff and community partners of the American Heart Association will provide all of the services needed for this 12 week challenge. More details will be available to the chosen participants.

When?
Applications are due Friday, March 7, 2014 and the participants will be notified shortly thereafter. The challenge will kick-off on Monday, March 17, 2014. BetterU participants will be highlighted at the Plattsburgh’s BetterU event in June 2014 (data tba).

Why?
Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women. In fact, 1 in 29 women die of breast cancer, but about 1 in every 2.4 women will die of heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases. Despite these staggering facts, only 21% of women consider heart disease a health threat. We have set out to change this perception with the hopes of also changing these statistics. The BetterU Challenge will not only encourage women to live a healthier lifestyle, but it will also raise awareness about the importance of heart health and how we can save our own lives as well as the lives of the women we love.
