Police: 3 Juveniles Started the Fatal Fire on Homestead Drive in Plattsburgh Thursday

New York State Police say the fire at Homestead Drive in Plattsburgh was started when 3 juveniles were playing with a lighter.

New York State Police say the fire at Homestead Drive in Plattsburgh was started when 3 juveniles were playing with a lighter.

The juveniles were in the garage and immediately made residents aware of the fire they started.

Three people died of carbon monoxide intake from the fire. Police say 2 of them were upstairs and one of them was downstairs.

Police have identified the 3 victims as 67-year-old Walter Hotaling, Betty Waddy, 98, and Josephine Brusgul, 87.  The residence is classified as an adult family type home.

Clinton County District Attorney Andrew J. Wylie says since the juveniles under the age of 13 they will not be moving with any charges.

The state will continue with their investigation into the fire. Police say conclusions from their investigation will determine how the case will be handled further.
