Police Make Arrests in Recent Montpelier Burglaries & Car Break-Ins

Police arrested two men in recent home burglaries in Montpelier.
MONTPELIER, Vt. - Police arrested two men in recent home burglaries in Montpelier.

A press release says police received a call Saturday night from residents who found their home had been broken into and numerous items taken. While police were investigating this burglary, there was a report of a second burglary taking place one block away on Liberty Street.

Police say after their investigation into both burglaries, they arrested 29-year-old Donald Lowe, of Montpelier, Vt., at around 5 a.m. Sunday. He's being charged with burglary and possession of stolen property.

A second man, 20-year-old Jonathan Welch, of Barre Town, Vt., was arrested later Sunday. He's being charged with burglary and possession of stolen property. Police say Welch is also a wanted fugitive for escaping from the Vermont Department of Corrections where he was being held for his involvement in recent Montpelier burglaries.

Police recovered stolen property, narcotics, and several handguns. Police say there are several investigations and additional arrests are likely in the recent spike of burglaries and car break-ins.
