HIGHGATE, Vt. - Vermont State Police say a man was killed after cutting down trees in the woods behind his house.
Family members became concerned when Roger Cota, 66, of Highgate, Vt. didn't return from the woods. At around 7:30 p.m. family members when to check on Cota and found him pinned under a maple tree.
The Highgate Fire Department responded to the scene and cut the trunk of the tree to free Cota. Rescue crews conducted life saving measures, but were not successful. Police say Cota died at the scene.
Vermont State Police are investigating the death as an accident.
