CASTLETON, Vt. - A Vermont man accused of first-degree murder following the disappearance of his roommate pleaded not guilty Wednesday.

The judge didn't set bail for Stephen Pelletier, 58, of Castleton.

Pelletier was arrested and charged Wednesday morning.

The victim, 25-year-old Michael Wisell, was reported missing by a family friend on Sunday. He was last seen on May 14, at a farm in Castleton, near his home. Police say he and Pelletier shared a home on Eaton Hill Road East.

Police say Wisell was dating Pelletier's daughter at the time.

Early Wednesday, police got a warrant to search the man’s property. Investigators say they found a body on the property.

The body will be taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy and positive identification.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
