WILLISTON, Vt. - Police officers will be joining you on the roads for the next few weeks. It's all part of the nationwide Operation Care.

The campaign focuses on keeping more impaired and aggressive drivers off the road. So far this year, 26 people have died in Vermont crashes.

Troopers say they're hoping a bigger presence will help.

"its a national campaign that state police across the country are involved in and so it goes to any roadway. The majority of our fatalities in Vermont occur on secondary roads or state highways and not so much the interstate," Lieutenant Garry Scott, of Vermont State Police, said.

This is the time of year when more people are on the roads, students heading back to college or families squeezing in one last vacation. The campaign runs through Labor Day.
