ST. ALBANS, Vt. – St. Albans police and firefighters are on scene of a propane fire at Liberty Propane on Lower Newton Street in St. Albans.
Fire fighters say more than 40 people were evacuated in the neighborhoods around Liberty Propane as a precaution.
Police say they believe it was likely caused by a snowplow that ran into a propane tank. Firefighters on scene say they are letting the fire burn out and they will likely be on scene for the next few hours.
Representatives with the Red Cross say they opened an evacuation center for those in the area who had to evacuate. Volunteers with the Red Cross are also providing food and water to the first responders on scene.
People were able to return to thier homes just after noon on Saturday.
