Rutland Area Airport Receives $8.1M Grant for Safety Improvements

The Rutland Southern-Vermont Regional Airport received a $8.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to make safety improvements to the airport.
NORTH CLARENDON, Vt. - The Rutland Southern-Vermont Regional Airport received a $8.1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to make safety improvements to the airport.

A press release says the grant, part of the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Improvement Program, will extend the runaway an additional 300 feet. An FAA-compliant runway safety area and graded area will also be constructed in the event an aircraft overruns the runway.

The grant will be disbursed through the Vermont Agency of Transportation.

Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), and Representative Peter Welch (D-Vt.) announced the grant.
