Sen. Leahy: Shutdown Hurting Farmers

WASHINGTON - Vermont Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) says the shutdown is hurting farmers.

He says Cabot and other dairy farms no longer have crucial USDA pricing information. Farms who use the federal temporary workers program might lose those workers.

"Our farmers often have to keep one eye on the weather forecast and how their crops are doing, and the other eye on the Department of Labor to ensure that their apple harvest workforce will be there," Leahy said.

There may be some progress in reopening the government. For the second day in a row, deals are being offered between both parties and high profile meetings are being held at the White House.
