BURLINGTON, Vt. - Light poles on Church Street were decorated with blue ribbons Wednesday.
The message is to raise awareness of the harmful effects of tobacco and secondhand smoke.
Edmunds and Hunt Middle School students took part in the Vermont Kids Against Tobacco Blue Ribbon project, it's part of Kick Butts Day.
A short note is attached to the ribbons explaining why the kids want to breathe clean air.
"You know we're young, and want to feel safe and have fun," 7th grader Florance Tuyishime said.
More than one-thousand events took place on Wednesday. This is the 2nd year Burlington students decorated downtown.
