While cigarette use among teenagers is declining, hookah smoking is gaining popularity.
A new study in the Journal Pediatrics shows nearly one out of five high school seniors used the water pipe device within the last year.
Researchers studied more than 5,500 high school seniors between 2010 and 2012.
They also found teenage hookah smokers tended to live in a big city, have highly-educated parents and a have a higher income from a job.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says hookah smoking has many of the same health risks as cigarette smoking.
