SU remains perfect after Ennis hits game-winning shot over Pitt 58-56

Pittsburgh (WSYR-TV/SportsNetwork.com) - The Orange trumped former Big East foe #25 Pittsburgh 58-56 Wednesday night in the Petersen Events Center behind a miraculous buzzer-beating three-pointer from Tyler Ennis.

Ennis hit two free throws with 10.8 seconds remaining in the game before hitting the three-pointer as time expired. The freshman point guard sensation took a scary fall at the end of the first half, but stayed in the game and finished with 13 points and 5 assists.

Senior C.J. Fair led #1 SU with 14 points as the Orange kept their perfect record intact. Fair scored 10 of his points in the second half. 

SU played without senior center Baye Moussa Keita, who is listed as day-to-day with a right knee injury.

Senior Talib Zanna scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Panthers in a losing effort. Zanna hit two free throws for a 56-55 lead with 4.4 seconds remaining before Ennis hit the game winner.

The Orange had only defeated Pitt once at the Petersen Events Center before Wednesday’s night victory.

Pitt is now 9-1 against teams ranked in the top 5 at the Petersen Events Center.

SU is 24-0 (11-0 ACC) after the victory and will next play North Carolina State on Saturday, Feb. 15 at 3 p.m.

The Orange and Wichita State are the only undefeated NCAA Division I teams left.
