SUNY Plattsburgh Lacrosse Raising Money for Cancer Research

The team will shave their heads for St. Baldrick's in solidarity with kids with cancer.

A college lacrosse team is gearing up to show support for childhood cancer patients. The SUNY Plattsburgh team will shave their heads to raise money for the St. Baldrick's Foundation.

The event starts Saturday at 12 P.M. at Olive Ridley’s on Court Street in Plattsburgh.

Head lacrosse coach Ryan Cavanagh started the event there five years ago. Cavanagh says he was motivated after his father visited children diagnosed with cancer while he was battling the disease himself.

“Having the conversation with him about the event and we kind of jump started it together here with our team and I guess in a way kind of those little kids going through that stuff were the inspiration for my dad to keep on fighting,” Cavanagh said.

“So it’s kind of a way for myself to give back to those kids a little bit who were heroes to my dad.”

They have raised more than $6,000 so far.
