Tractor Trailer Hauling 99K Pounds of Sand Gets Stuck on Route 108 in Smugglers' Notch

Vermont State Police say a tractor trailer carrying 99,000 pounds of bunker sand got stuck on Vermont Route 108 in Smugglers' Notch Wednesday.
STOWE, Vt. - Vermont State Police say a tractor trailer carrying 99,000 pounds of bunker sand got stuck on Vermont Route 108 in Smugglers' Notch Wednesday.

Jacques Marchand, 64, of Dunham, Quebec, was issued traffic violations for failure to obey traffic control devices and equipment violations. Marchand was traveling south on the route and heading to his destination at Stowe Mountain Golf Club.

A large wrecker is assisting in removing the vehicle from the roadway and removing the sand from the trailer. The road is still closed to traffic. The tractor trailer initially got stuck around 1:30 p.m.

Travel for tractor trailers and large buses is prohibited on Vermont Route 108. Police say there are signs on both sides of the road alerting motorists of the ban.
