BURLINGTON, VT --- The Vermont Lake Monsters will open their 21st New York-Penn League season on the road at Lowell on Friday, June 13th, the single-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics announced today with the release of its entire 2014 schedule. The Lake Monsters will play three games against the Red Sox affiliate before their home opener on Monday, June 16th vs. Connecticut at historic Centennial Field.
The June 13th contest at Lowell marks the earliest season opener in Lake Monsters history, while the 2014 regular season is scheduled to conclude on Labor Day Monday, September 1st. The Lake Monsters home opener on June 16th will take place 20 years to the day of the then-Vermont Expos first-ever NY-Penn League game vs. the Pittsfield Mets on June 16, 1994.
The home opener on June 16th will be the first of seven straight games at Centennial Field, as the Lake Monsters host a pair of two-game series vs. Connecticut and Tri-City before Connecticut returns for another three-game series to end the homestand on June 22nd/
Vermont then hosts Lowell and Tri-City in a pair of three-game series June 27-July 2 before Lowell returns for a two-game series July 7-8. The Lake Monsters will play their first 25 games of the season against their three Stedler Division rivals.
The Lake Monsters will have three other six-game homestands during the 2014 season (July 16-21 against State College/Hudson Valley, July 30-August 4 vs. Batavia/Mahoning Valley and August 12-17 against Aberdeen/Brooklyn). Vermont wraps up its home schedule with a three-game series vs. Staten Island August 22-24 and a two-game series against Tri-City August 31st and September 1st.
Game times for the 2014 season will remain 7:05 pm Monday-Friday, 6:05 pm Saturday and 5:05 pm Sunday. There will be special start times of 11:05 am on July 8th and 5:05 pm for the season finale on Labor Day. The 2014 New York-Penn League All-Star Game will take place Tuesday, August 19th MCU Park in Brooklyn, the home of the Cyclones.
2014 Season Tickets are now available for purchase by calling (802) 655-4200 or stopping by the Lake Monsters front office at the top of the King Street Ferry Dock. In addition, the public can still purchase some of the original wooden reserved section seats (in sets of three or four) that are being replaced for the 2014 season.
