VSP: Man Drives 75 to 100 MPH During Pursuit in Northern VT

A man is accused of leading police on a pursuit early Wednesday morning.
ST. GEORGE, Vt. - A man is accused of leading police on a pursuit early Wednesday morning. The pursuit began around 1:30 a.m.

Police say as a trooper approached the vehicle Fred Seavey, 50, of North Clarendon, Vt., was driving he took off and a pursuit ensued. Police initially stopped Seavey because they say he crossed the center line and didn't stop at a stop sign at the Vt. Route 2A & Vt. Route 116 intersection in St. George, Vt.

Police say Seavey is accused of driving south on Route 116 at speeds ranging from 75 to 100 MPH. The pursuit continued on Silver Street into Monkton and then onto Monkton Road into Bristol. Police were able to put spike strips down, giving the vehicle two flat tires. Police say Seavey then lead them on a brief foot pursuit before they arrested him.

Seavey is charged with attempting to elude, excessive speed, and careless negligent operation. He was treated on scene and was transported to Porter Hospital with minor injuries.
