BENNINGTON, Vt. - Vermont State Police are still investigating a shooting at the Brattleboro Police Department Tuesday night.
A press release says at approximately 8:30 p.m., Gregory Filo, 42, of Bennington, Vt., walked into the lobby of Bennington Police Department and was acting erratically. Shortly after a friend of Filo entered the lobby. The dispatcher noticed that Filo was making a stabbing motions to his friend with a knife.
Police say the dispatcher, believing Filo was going to stab his friend, notified officers at the station.
When officers entered, Filo brandished the knife in a threatening manner. Police say officers demanded Filo drop the knife, but he ignored them. One of the officers fired his duty weapon once, striking Filo.
Filo was taken to Albany Medical Center and is currently listed in stable condition. Filo's friend was not injured in the incident.
The Bennington Officer who shot Filo is on paid administrative leave, per protocol. The officer's name is not being released at this time.
Authorities are working with the Bennington State's Attorney's Office regarding possible charges against Filo.
The investigation is ongoing.
