VSP: Woman Falls Off Roof of Moving Vehicle

Vermont State Police responded to a report of a woman falling out of a moving vehicle on Whitelaw Road in Ryegate Monday night.

RYEGATE, Vt. - Vermont State Police responded to a report of a woman falling out of a moving vehicle on Whitelaw Road in Ryegate Monday night. The incident happened at around 10:30 p.m.

Police say Sara Somers, 21, of Woodsville, N.H., exited the moving vehicle through the sun roof and fell off the roof when driver Brandon Cushing, 20, of Woodsville, N.H., drove around a sharp corner. 

Somers was transported to Cottage Hospital and was later transferred to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center with severe head trauma. 

Cushing was arrested and is being charged with gross negligent operation with serious bodily injury resulting. He was also charged with civil violation complaints for minor consuming alcohol, and minor operating with a BAC of 0.02% or higher, and a seatbelt violation. 

Cushing was arraigned on Tuesday.
